Google shutting down some products

Google announced on Friday the shutting down of Google Buzz to fully focus on Google+. This is not coming as a surprise as the service really failed to live up to the initial hype. This is definitely going the same way as Google wave.

According to the information  made available on Google blog by Bradley Horowitz, Google’s Vice President of Product, Google will shut down Google Buzz and the Buzz API, and focus instead on Google+. The good news, however, is that while people obviously will not be able to create new posts hencefort, they will be able to view their existing content on their Google Profile, and download it using Google Takeout.

Aside Google Buzz, Google will also be shutting down the Code Search on Jan 15, 2012 alongside the Code Search API and some other products like Jaiku, iGoogle’s social features and The University Research Program for Google Search. The previously announced Google Labs site will also be shut down while Boutiques.com and the former Like.com websites will be replaced by Google Product Search.

So, what will Google be doing? Google will shift its attention to its Google+ service which has just hit 40 Million users according to Larry Page, Google CEO. Google also believes she has learnt a lot from products like Buzz, and will be putting that learning to work every day in her vision for products like Google+. The announcement further states that Google will henceforth focus on giving her users something truly awesome. So, as a Google+ user, I can only wait to see what Google has in stock.
