Database Administrator Needed in a Telecoms Company

A leading telecoms company in Nigeria is looking to recruit a database administrator (DBA). The DBA will be in charge of designing, installing, monitoring, maintaining, and tuning production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability. This person is also responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases.

You are expected to meet the following requirements:

  • Thorough knowledge of Oracle RDBMS 9i, 10g and 11g environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills within and outside database environment.
  • 5+ years in Database Administration/support in Oracle RDBMS 9i, 10g and 11g in 24×7 production environment and in Unix and Windows operating systems.
  • Minimum 2 years of parallel experience in setting up and maintaining production Oracle RAC Env. 10g/ 11g.
  • Strong Database and RAC implementations experience and troubleshooting skills in mission critical Environment.
  • Setting up and maintaining Data Guard on10g/11g env. with MAA.
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle Database Tuning.
  • Demonstrated, in-depth knowledge of database internals and data structures Strong knowledge of SQL/SQL*Plus and strong understanding of PL/SQL and stored procedures/pkgs.
  • Strong Knowledge of Database Backup and recovery using RMAN and logical backups.
  • Strong knowledge of managing eBusiness suite databases (R12)
  • Good Knowledge of OEM /Oracle Grid for 10g.
  • Strong knowledge of Unix shell or Perl scripting languages.
  • Good Knowledge of various generic business practices and process flow.
  • Good knowledge of all the MS-Office Tools.
  • Quick Learner and strong listening and communication skills.

The Responsibilities are:

  • To carry out Research and development on Database Administration
  • Project database capacity planning on future storage requirements and database growth
  • Provide technical support to IT developers on database access strategies and performance issues.
  • Monitor the performance of production systems and utilize appropriate tools to identify tuning needs.
  • Maintain backup policy using RMAN and perform regular tests
  • Process automation using Oracle PL/SQL shell or Perl scripts etc
  • Install configure and maintain multiple Oracle databases and related products in a test and a production environment
  • Provide 24X7 support databases to internal customers
  • To ensure that the required availability, Business continuity, security, scalability and management of mission critical applications are provided always.
  • Provide and maintain scripts to automate the monitoring of environments for quick and effective fault diagnosis
