3D Theater Experience At Genesis Deluxe Cinema, Nigeria

I recently went to watch a movie at Palms Lekki based on the request of my cousin who works there. Yes, it’s old news that 3D cinemas (Silverbird and Genesis Delux Lagos) are now being run in the country but I was yet to experience it first hand.

After a meeting on the island I decided to pay my dear cousin a visit and on her request I was made to watch one movie of choice so I selected Avengers 3D for the experience of it.

I’l be sincere, I alternated my 3D glasses off and on just to enjoy the deference in 2D and 3D viewing. When I was done with the movie I took my 3D glasses home and out of curiosity I did a small research of my own, this is what I found out. Genesis Deluxe Cinemas uses MasterImage 3D systems.

What is MasterImage 3D?

MasterImage 3D is a brand name of a system for presenting three-dimensional films in a digital cinema. Stereoscopic viewing is achieved by the delivery of slightly different images to eyes (creating the illusion of 3D images by restricting the light that reaches each eye). The projector alternately flashing frames for each eye at high speed. The system uses a large spinning filter, containing alternating segments of circularly polarized material, mounted in front of the projector lens and synchronized to the projected images. The filter wheel lowers out of the optical path for non-3D material.

The provided lightweight and recyclable/re-usable eyewear works in conjunction with the digital 3D cinema system to deliver the sharp and stunning 3D experience. They fit comfortably for both people who do or do not wear prescription glasses. They are inexpensive, passive and can be used which customers may keep (or recycle as desired). There is no need for washing and sanitizing as with systems using costly active glasses.

“To present stereoscopic images and films, two images are projected superimposed onto the same screen or display through different polarizing filters.  As each filter passes only that light which is similarly polarized and blocks the light polarized in the opposite direction, each eye sees a different image. This is used to produce a three-dimensional effect by projecting the same scene into both eyes, but depicted from slightly different perspectives. Several people can view the stereoscopic images at the same time.”
