Top 10 iPhone And iPad Apps of 2011 – The African Edit.

6. iMuscle

iMuscle is a sophisticated workout aid that can be taken anywhere. Use it to identify a body part or individual muscle by zooming into a 3-Dimensional human body with the musculature exposed. Then access all the exercises associated with the development / rehabilitation of that muscle.

This is something for the doctors, personal trainers, athletes, or if you are just concerned about getting ‘em 6 packs. Perhaps this video will show you why it was named best medical app for 2011 by Apple.

7. Super 8

Super 8 is the ultimate Super 8 camera emulator for your video-capable iDevice. Using Super 8, you can make your own vintage movies and add lens, filter and shake effects, arrange clips and scenes the way you want them; you can even add your own credits, plus publish to twitter, Facebook, and YouTube instantly.

Perhaps you should see the movie – Super 8 first before getting this one, but again if you have flair for making short films and clips with a vintage look then this one is for you.

8. Pinterest

Embracing the minimalist style of Tumblr, this blogging app allows users to create virtual bulletin boards of their favorite things. Friends and followers can then re-pin their own comments on words and images that attracted them. This is not an app for the verbose.

Many functions and tasks come with a need to organize as well as get other people’s opinion. If you are in that line of work, Pinterest is for you.

9. Google Currents

Google’s Flipboard competitor is the best pure news aggregator available for mobile devices. While currently no match for Flipboard in terms of social integration, Google Currents is faster and offers more intuitive customization options with third-party publishers.

Google Currents may have an edge over Flipboard in that it allows for high speed offline reading – definitely something we in Africa will appreciate a lot, considering our bandwidth and connectivity issues.

10. Procreate

Procreate is a professional painting & sketching app, made exclusively for iPad. Engineered using the incredible Silica™ painting engine, painting & sketching on an iPad has never been so responsive and precise.

Just going to share a quote on this one – “If you are an artist with an iPad and don’t use Procreate; you are crazy. If you don’t yet have an iPad, Procreate is the reason to get one.” Blue Ember Studios (@blue_ember)

There you have it – my list for 2011. Although Instagram came out Top App for 2011 according to Apple, it has been published over 14 months now, that’s why it did not make on this list.

So as you celebrate the season this holiday, why not get some of these apps for yourself, a friend or family? Wondering how? You may want to check out Big Catapult.

Happy Holidays!
