Recently, Microsoft sent out a mail to its messenger users informing them of the shutting down of the MSN messenger service and instructing them to switch over to Skype. Skype was acquired by Microsoft in 2011 for 8.5 billion Dollars and it is no surprise that they are merging the two competing platforms.
Microsoft will discontinue Messenger in all countries worldwide in the first quarter of 2013, except in mainland China. Report has it that the discontinuation will take effect exactly on 15th of March 2013, and users that have not migrated to Skype will have to migrate to Skype if the wish to continue using the MSN messenger service.
If you are a MSN Messenger user, there is no need to worry making the switch is quite easy, the company has made it easy to perform the switch to Skype.
All it takes, the company said, is an update to the latest version of Skype and sign up through a Microsoft account. Once those steps are complete, users’ “Messenger contacts will be there.”
