South Africa: BlackBerry And Oracle Organize Mobile Apps Challenge

Collaboration between two tech giants can indeed produce exciting results. That’s what BlackBerry and Oracle are doing with the Mobile Apps Challenge holding in South Africa. In this program, local developers are encouraged to come up with mobile business solutions that can help customers in their quest to increase productivity and maximize the potential of their mobile workforce.

During the mobile apps challenge, developers would be tasked with the development of enterprise apps that can work seamlessly with the current Oracle ERP stack, running on the BB10 platform or on the Oracle Mobile Application Development Framework. BlackBerry also plans to hold another of its eagerly awaited jam days in conjunction with Oracle. This would afford developers the opportunity to try out their development tool sets, brainstorm with the experts, and network with fellow developers. They would also be exposed to news of some of the most recent developments on both platforms.

Speaking ahead of the program, Alexandra Zagury, Blackberry’s Managing Director in charge of Southern Africa said, “We have worked closely with Oracle to mobilize business processes in the enterprise for more than a decade and to extend the power of the Oracle software to the mobile workforce. We are delighted to be working with Oracle to engage South Africa’s talented mobile software developers to extend the power of Oracle business solutions to workers with BlackBerry 10 Smartphones.”

Also speaking on behalf of Oracle, The Alliance and Channel Director for South Africa, Stefan Diedericks said, “This initiative sees two leaders responding to enterprise mobility needs in South Africa in partnership with the development community. As one of the country’s best selling smartphone brands with a strong enterprise heritage, BlackBerry is ideally placed to help our customers mobilize their business processes.”

The BlackBerry Enterprise Service (BES) offers real-time mobile access to enterprise emails, critical office applications/systems and the internet. Running over 2G/3.5G data network, BES can reliably provide personnel of large, medium and small businesses access to office emails and other applications while on the move.
