#SMWLagos Recap: The Government, The Photos And Nollywood [Day 1]

The first Social Media Week in Africa kicked off today and it was an amazing experience with many influential figures from different industries in attendance.

The first event I attended was on the government and social media. This was organized to discuss how government is using digital media to relate with the citizens and address social affairs. The session had Hon. Adebiyi Mabadje, Commissioner, Science & Tech Lagos State;  Gerald Ilukwe, Managing Director, Galaxy Backbone and Tomi Davies  on a panel with Tolu Ogunlesi moderating. The panelists answered various questions on how the government was going digital and what efforts were being put into place to ensure the smooth transition.

After this, I went for Nokia’s pop-up photo booth. Nokia did a two hour pop-up photo booth where different people came in to take free pictures in a booth using Nokia Lumia 920. There was also a competition where two undergraduates from Bowen College won a Nokia Asha 205 each.

Finally, there was the event on how social media is being used to promote movies in Nollywood. On the panel, we had Seun Oloketuyi of Best of Nollywood, Tosin Ajibade and Linda Ikeji . The session was moderated by Gbenga Adeyinka and it addressed the benefits and challenges of managing social media accounts. The session ended the panelists answering questions from the audience.
