Remember Prowork? The project management and team collaboration app that enables real time collaboration for dispersed project teams and allows users to stay on top of what’s happening on their projects from wherever? Yeah, that’s the one.
Prowork’s developers have announced the the release of a web app that optimises the service for iOS, WindowsPhone and Android devices.
Before now, Prowork had what we might call fairly good support for mobile — native apps on BlackBerry and feature phones (Java). But that meant that other smartphone platforms — Android, iOS and WindowsPhone — had to make do with the mobile website, which is no doubt a less than optimal experience
In response to popular demand, the Prowork team say they are working hard to bring native apps to the other platforms. But like anyone in this business knows, that could take a while. So in the meantime, they’re rolling out an HTML5 version, with enhanced functionality to keep their people happy.
Of course, a web app won’t quite hit the spot like a native apps would. But HTML5 is definitely an upgrade from the current iteration. When viewed on iOS (iPhone, iPad), Android, Windows Phone and BB OS6+ devices, the new experience beats the crap out of an ordinary mobile site.
Prowork was conceived at Startup Weekend Lagos in September, 2011, before making its official debut at Mobile Web West Africa, early in 2012. The service was a nominee for the Meffys Innovation Award for Growth Markets in August 2012.
Prowork also participated in the inaugural DEMO Africa showcase that saw 40 African startups converge in Nairobi, in October 2012.
Right now they report 10,000 users and counting, on their platform. They’ve also secured a number of corporate clients who are subscribed to their enterprise plan.
Did I mention that Prowork made my “almighty” list of recommended mobile apps late last year?
The Prowork team promise that native iOS, Android and even a new BB version are in the pipeline. The web app is however currently accessible at mobile.prowork.me. If you already use Prowork, they need all the feedback they can get to help make the experience better. If you don’t, you can sign up for a free account on their website.
