Local content in Nigeria is getting increasing value with efforts from players like iROKO Partners, and more recently the Google SYNC initiative. Perhaps a reason why NextSpeel is an interesting product, having just launched to the public. Possibly for the first time in an organised manner in Africa, Soap Operas and TV series (not movies) can now be accessed online.

NextSpeel plans to be create a pan-African market, with Nigeria as a pilot country, and immediate plans to expand into other African countries starting with West Africa. Full episodes of soap operas that made waves on traditional TV and cable and other productions would be available on demand with more recent episodes added occasionally.
With the platform currently hosting a number of series, including House Apart, Extended Family, My Mum and I and Soul Sistas, the startup’s immediate plan is to find traction – grow user base, as well as content base, and that may not be far off with the freemium model adopted, but again time will tell.
Do stay tuned for updates about NextSpeel and the team behind it.
