MiMo has released the API for its mobile money and payments products to developers. This they made known in a post on the MiMo blog, also stating that the release is in Alpha, with rapid updates coming soon.
For those who aren’t sure of what exactly MiMo is, it’s one of the myriad Nigerian mobile money products that we keep hearing about in the news, they just haven’t “launched” yet. The last we heard about MiMo’s launch was that it would happen late this year. So far, it hasn’t happened yet. Releasing their API however indicates that launch preparations might finally be moving into high gear.
MiMo is particularly interesting because unlike most other mobile money products on the Nigerian landscape, it has been specially designed to cater to developers and online merchants via rich development libraries for 3rd party developers and integration to e-commerce sites. Earlier in the year, MiMo’s parent company, Vanso, visited the Co-Creation hub to apprise the community of these features, and this latest announcement is obviously a follow-up to that event.
The MiMo API repository is public on GitHub and is available to developers in PHP, C#, Java, Objective-C, and Node.js, although Ruby and Python people might have to wait a bit to get in on the action.
