The Ericsson Applications Awards (EAA) is an annual, global competition for applications developers on the android platform. The EAA provides opportunity for students and small scale & medium sizes enterprises (SMEs) developers to gain exposure, reach out to customers as well a chance to win up to €25,000 in prize money. It also involves creating and submitting an original android app that has not been published elsewhere. Thus, there is a need for creativity in other to succeed in this competition.
The EAA competition consists of two distinct categories, the Students category and the Company category. If you are a student of a higher vocational, universities and academics studies, you are very well eligible to participate in the EAA under the student category; and if you are a company having not more than one hundred (100) employees worldwide, you are eligible to participate under the Company category.
For you to participate in the competition you must for a team and each competeting team must consist of at least 2-4 persons. The theme for this year, EAA 2013 competition is “Apps for City Life”. The aim of the EAA 2013 competition is to promote innovations towards the Networked Society by connecting people, things and places to empower individuals and society.
Requirements for participation
- Develop an application based on the Android platform (Web or Native) that addresses the theme.
- Submit an demo-video and a working prototype application by February 28, 2013
- The application must be an original work.
There will be prize money for the 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place winners, and Honorary Diplomas for the 4th and 5th position winners the Prize table for each category is shown below:

1st place: EUR 25 000
2nd place: EUR 10 000
3rd place: EUR 5 000
4th and 5th place: Honorary Diplomas
Evaluation Process
- The first evaluation phase will produce the semi-finalist teams, the top 5 teams in each category.
- The second evaluation phase involves the evaluation of the semi-finalist entries by representatives from 3-4 countries globally and this will result in the selection of the finalist teams (the top 2 in each category).
- The third evaluation phase will be done at the Main Awards ceremony by a jury (panel of experts) who will select the final winners.

- Working application prototype
- Innovative solution
- Business potential

- March 1, 2013: Evaluation of entries
- March 16, 2013: Announcement of semi-finalists (top 5) in each category
- March 20, 2013: Global evaluation of semi-finalist entries
- April 25, 2013: Announcement of finalist teams (top 2) in each category
