The Crunchies Award: The Nominees and Winners

The Crunchies awards have come and gone again. This being the fifth edition, it turned out to be a 5-star event, with highlights from Siri curse stunt to giving wild monkey trophies to tech’s greatest innovators. The event was streamed live, but if you missed it, check out the full list of nominees and winners below.

The world, Africa inclusive, owes a thank you to Jack Dorsey, the “Founder Of The Year” and leader of Twitter, winner of “Biggest Social Impact”. This is evident in major events that took place on the continent in 2011/12 – Egypt, Tunisia, and Nigeria,  as his poise and dedication helped keep the micro-blogging service online so it could aid revolutions.

Dropbox took the night with its win for “Best Overall Startup”. The company’s young founders Drew Houstonas and Arash Ferdowsi, demonstrated the power of the freemium model, and had the guts to turn down a 9 figure acquisition bid. I wonder what I’d have done, if it were me that was approached. I’d probably sell out.
