Here at OTEKBITS, we’ve got something awesome going on (like how we get African startups into the spotlight and update our audience with technology trends) but we cannot just get over our readers’ reactions to our name – they think ‘OTEKBITS’ sucks!
We thought the name would stick, just like Google, Eskimi, and Tantalizers, but that doesn’t seem to be happening fast enough. In fact, after many months of correction, my dad still calls us OBITEK :s. So, we have come to the conclusion that it’s about time we rebranded, and we want you to be a part of it.
That’s why, starting now, we are running a rebranding competition where you have a chance to decide the new brand identity for the leading media company dedicated to providing daily coverage on everything happening within the Nigerian and (Sub-Saharan) Africa Business, Startups, Social Media, Entertainment, Technology and Developer ecosystem.
There are two categories for the competition:
- Name-only entry: For this, you just have to suggest a new name for the brand. Feel free to check if the domain name, i.e. http://newname.com, is available via popular domain name registrars. Submit your entry with subject title, Name Entry for Brand Competition to otek@bits.ng
- Name and Logo entry: This is for the creative folks with a little bit – or a lot – of graphic design skills. Submit your entry with subject title, Name and Logo Entry for Brand Competition to otek@bits.ng
Participating is easy. Simply:
- Register your intention to compete by posting ‘I am participating in the @OTEKBITS rebranding competition. Send me ideas or wish me luck. I’m in this for the win!’ on your social media pages (Twitter or Facebook). The social media buzz you create increases your chances.
- Submit your entry via email to otek@bits.ng indicating what category you are entering for in the subject title.
- Keep your fingers crossed and wait for the announcement on the winners
What’s in it for you?
Aside from the bragging rights you get for carving out a new brand for tech’s coolest online community, you stand the chance of winning fantastic prizes including: branded t-shirts, hand-bands, Microsoft Office 365, BlackBerry phones, and dinner with some of the who’s who in the local tech space.
