Afrinolly is a local but global app that enables you to watch trailers of movies produced in the African movie markets, most especially Nollywood. Get to watch African music videos, comedy on-line and full length movies on your Android, Blackberry and Nokia Smartphones.
Afrinolly also brings to you the latest news and gossip about movies, music and celebrities in Africa. The app emerge from G-Nigeria in May 2011 when 2 members of Fan Connect Online participated in the Google’s 2-day event in Nigeria, and later went ahead to win Android Developer challenge, Sub-Saharan Africa explained Chike Maduegbuna the founder of Afrinolly in an interview with @EmperorDIV on Forbes.
The app hit over 1,000,000 plus downloads within 10 Months of launch. The Afrinolly now want to give back to the Entertainment industry by launching ‘Afrinolly Shortfilm Competition’.
The Competition which is a video-based competition targeted at budding film-makers and documentary/animation content creators. Given the high penetration of mobile devices in Africa, this competition will create an ecosystem of unique localised African content for mobile device users.
The goal of the competition is to:
- Showcase African talent online
- Provide a platform to foster the creation of new (online) content produced by Africans, thereby boosting local content
- And to provide great visibility for some of the most gifted creators around the continent.
The competition will target over 1,000 film-makers across Africa and the winners will receive reward valued at $100,000 (in cash and kind). Top participants will be granted opportunity to sign online distribution and content publishing deals with Afrinolly.
Online submissions of entries will run for 3 months, from 1st November 2012 – 31st January 2013. Thereafter, a panel of judges will shortlist finalists, from 1st – 8th February, 2013. Online public voting will run from 11th February – 4th March 2013. The final result will be announced on 6th March, 2013.
The competition will commence with an Opening Conference on 1st November 2012 at Southern Sun Hotel, Ikoyi, from 11am – 2pm. Partners include Google, MTN, Blackberry, Goethe Institut and iRep.
