MTN is definitely up to something big. This is the feedback from most stakeholders who attended the MTN's Ideas Forum held on Friday, 21 October 2011. Yes, it is a new dawn in the Nigeria’s Mobile Industry as one of the biggest players in the Nigeria mobile space, MTN Nigeria, declares her commitment to invest more into the ecosystem and launch her new app store. This is definitely good news to mobile app developer, tech entrepreneurs and other stakeholders. 
MTN Nigeria demonstrates this commitment by holding the first MTN Ideas forum. The forum was held in Southern Sun Hotel, Ikoyi, Lagos with major stakeholders in attendant. Representatives from Google, Nokia and other key players in the mobile industry were present at the event to rub minds together on the upcoming opportunity in the Industry.
The keynote was giving by Bola Akingbade, Chief Marketing Officer MTN Nigeria. Bola iterated MTN’s commitment to launch her app store in Nigeria and provide the youth, developers, investors and entrepreneurs with a new line of opportunities. According to Bola, MTN’s decision was borne out of her commitment of enriching the life of Nigeria and to promote locally relevant mobile contents.
MTN app store promises to create a better opportunity for Nigerians who intend to invest their skills time and resources into creating mobile applications which are locally relevant. In the quest to make this a reality, MTN declares that the Ideas Forum will not be her last as she has decided to bring the stakeholders together on the quarterly basis to discuss the progress of her commitment in enriching life. The decision was well received by key stakeholders band most see this as a welcome development.
Other key speaker at the event was the award winner mobile app company, the creator of Afrinolly. Afrinolly was used as the case study of the locally relevant applications which also have global appraisal. Developers were adviced to create more locally relevant applications and give it a global feel to make it acceptable in the global mobile space.
At the close of the event, MTN decided to further demonstrate her commitment of enriching life by enriching the life of some of the participants by giving away some new broadband Hotspot modems, iPad, mobile devices and other exciting gifts in a raffle draw. We can only see a better tomorrow for the mobile industry in Nigeria.
