Will You Buy a Made In Nigeria Tablet or Smartphone?

Vantium hasn’t gotten the kind of media exposure that Encipher’s Inye has gotten. I gathered that they have been selling to the enterprise, students and youth corps members. One of the founders, Omoniyi Ewete, made it clear to me that their target audience do not spend much time on online blogs. Guess they are more on the street.

Have you also heard about a Nigerian company based in Abuja that has made a phone that runs Android? The dual-sim GSM phone called Pliris Blaze is going to launch very soon. A unit was made available to Mobility Blog. From his review, the phone looks like it is spotting some impressive specs and running Android 4.0. It sounds like a phone I will like to get my hands on. They have been listening to comments from Mr Yomi and some other folks that have been testing the phone and making amends. This gives me some confident that the product will be one to look forward to. Something good is going to come out of Nigeria. Will you buy?

We are expecting to get hands on review of the Pliris blaze too and we will let you know as soon as we get one.

From what I have gathered, all those building made in Nigeria phones and tablets are still having huge challenges to cross, but they are not giving up. They look very capable when I look at the team behind them. One of their toughest challenge is getting people to believe that what they are offering is quality and of good standard. There’s also the challenge of funding; getting potential investors to believe in the success of this venture. Building phones and tablets is a capital intensive venture.

If a quality made in Nigeria phone or tablet is offered to you, will you buy one?

This is an ongoing post and I will keep you posted and monitor the progress made by the different players. If you are building a phone or tablet and we have not spoken to you and you are reading this please send me a mail at jesse DOT femi AT gmail DOT com
