Early stage technology startups often require an injection of investment to develop the first version of their product and to test it in the market. Unfortunately in the Nigerian market there is limited very early stage funding sources that are available before financial viability of the solution is guaranteed.
Over the last 2 years Indigo Trust through the CcHUB has invested GRANTS of more than N7million in 6 Nigerian technology startups including BudgIT, The Constitution App, iWatchLive and Naijateenz. Indigo Trust was also one of the earliest investors in the set up the CcHUB. Across Africa, Indigo Trust is establishing itself as a key partner supporting early stage technology startups with the potential to drive significant social change.
The Indigo Trust is a part of The Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts in the UK. It is a grant making foundation that funds technology-driven projects to bring about social change, largely in African countries. The Trust focuses mainly on innovation, transparency and citizen empowerment. The Trust will also consider innovative projects, which utilise Information Technologies to support development outcomes in any sector including the health, education, human rights and agricultural spheres.
At April Developer’s Parapo, software developers, technology entrepreneurs, social entrepreneurs and other stakeholders will have the opportunity to interact with Loren Triesman (Executive Director) and Matthew O’Reilly (Programme Manager) of the Indigo Trust to find out more about the motivation for setting up the foundation, how it works, its portfolio of investments and how to apply to the Indigo Trust for funding.
