RIM to participate in the IDC IT Security Roadshow in Lagos

Getting hacked or compromising confidential information is easier these days. Especially with the proliferation of personal connected devices that we use to work and play. There’s also the bring your own device. Not so many of the people that are working at a particular place are using devices that are provided and properly secured by the company. We see more and more people sending official emails and storing official documents on their personal computers, tablets and smartphones.

There are lots of risks involved. How can IT managers and the IT department ensure that the bring your own device does not expose the general network of the company to hackers? [You may want to read an earlier story published here on how someone got hacked. It can happen to anyone]

RIM will be making a presentation in the IDC IT security road show billed to take place in Lagos this July at Eko Hotel. The full details of the event is presented in the press release presented below and made available to oTeKbits.

July 17th, Eko Hotel, Lagos: Research In Motion (RIM), the maker of BlackBerry® smartphones and BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablets, will participate in this year’s Middle East and Africa IDC IT Security Roadshow to be held in Lagos on July 17th at the Eko Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos.

In a keynote presentation, RIM will discuss the practical security needs for businesses that allow confidential data to be sent and received by employees using mobile devices.

Nader Henein, a Security Advisor at RIM who will be presenting, said, “The robust BlackBerry security architecture is highly accredited and is trusted by many of the most security-conscious organizations around the world.

“We are excited to participate in the IDC IT Security Roadshow where we will talk about the issues and challenges that IT groups face today and how BlackBerry Mobile Fusion, our next generation enterprise mobility solution, can help CIOs and senior IT leaders secure and manage their organization’s mobile deployments from one unified interface.”

Ranjit Rajan, Director Software, IDC Middle East and Turkey said, “It is an honour to have RIM participating in the IDC IT Security Roadshow across 10 cities.  Consumerisation of IT is leading to increased use of smartphones and related mobile applications by employees in the workplace. The lines between personal and professional use are also blurring. Organizations are increasingly implementing Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) strategies. These trends are building pressure on IT managers to focus greater attention on mobile security management. RIM’s participation in the Roadshow will help raise awareness on this important topic.”
