The proposed theme for the first edition of the TENT Gathering is In, And Out Of, Africa. The sessions will focus on how young Nigerian techies can take advantage of the African market for their products and services and become visible/extend their offers to the world as African brands. The sessions mentioned in the draft agenda are further described below:
Registration/Welcome
500 participants are expected from across Nigeria (especially universities and other tertiary institutions). The morning session will help the participants settle in with presentations and video screenings focused on the TENT theme and why young Nigerians can turn the unemployment disadvantage and their evident passion into an opportunity for technopreneurship.
Keynotes
Keynotes will be delivered by Nigerian, regional and global experts on the subjects that surround the themes technology opportunity, technology capacity building, entrepreneurship opportunities, investment, product/service exposure, etc. This session will feature the leading keynote by the lead sponsor and we hope to also feature a team of investors from the US, an internet pioneer based in Ghana and leading Africans in the technopreneurship space.
Innovation Clinics
In partnership with Innovation Hubs across Nigeria and Pan Africa University’s Enterprise Development Centre, participants will be exposed to best practice examples of both success and failure so they can ask practical questions about their on-going projects and get help from the hub managers.
Techie
Featuring 6 (editor’s note: the agenda above says 7 speakers. Please confirm correct number) amazing speakers who know what it means to be techies in Nigeria, the morning of Day 2 will have 2 sessions and 2 panel discussions that will expatiate on the theme.
Entrepreneurial
Featuring 6 amazing speakers who know what it means to be tech entrepreneurs in Nigeria, the afternoon of Day 2 will have 2 sessions and 2 panel discussions that will further explain the theme.
Nigerian. Talented
The final day will focus on demos of products and services by young techies who hope to use the opportunity provided by the TENT Gathering to launch (or re-present) their products/services. Participants will be sourced from TENT workshops and the university programs (focus on TENT@GreatIfe for 2012). This session will be heavily reported by local and international media, covered by live bloggers and made accessible via social media hashtags.
Investors and Mentor Panel Feedback
A panel of investors and mentors will listen to the presentations and give feedback on how the presenters can improve their product/service, request for additional meetings or announce support for projects that catch their attention, or a combination of both feedback and support. This session is important to the success of TENT Gatherings because participants will either use feedback to get better or use support (e.g. investment) as a route to the market.
Closing Ceremony
The closing cocktail will celebrate the successes recorded during the 3 days and will also be an opportunity to thank resource partners. At the closing cocktail, PIN will announce the host of the next TENT Gathering and other related projects that participants will find as huge opportunities. The cocktail will also feature a keynote by the representative of the lead sponsor.
OTEKBITS will be having interviews with the speakers so stay close.
