Gmail Out with “Background Send” Feature

Have you always wanted to do more with your Gmail? Do you wish you could do something else while your email is being sent? Then, you don’t have to wait any longer. Google just launched a new feature called “Background Send” in its Gmail lab. Before now, delays happen after you hit that “Send” button and you have no option than to wait patiently for a couple seconds for Gmail to send your message. If you are business guy and you are using Gmail to power your email, that definitely adds up to a lot of lost time. You don’t have to worry again. This new feature was launched to give you that time back.

If this looks like something that will help you, head to your Gmail settings and look under the Labs tab to turn it on. You can get on with what you are doing while Gmail quietly sends off your mail in the background. The good news is that you can keep reading your inbox, compose new messages, and chat with people. This feature allows you to do all the things you would usually do with your Gmail. You can even send more than one message in the background at the same time. The beauty is that you will see a warning prompting to go back and fix any issue if anything goes wrong (maybe you got that email address wrong, or maybe your connection had a hiccup). Once this issue is fixed, you can try to send the email again and the cycle will continue. The “Send errror” message will stay around until you fix the issue. This means you can always decide to fix the issue later. Yes, you don’t have to stop whatever you are doing right away.

Caution:

You, however, need to know that you have to wait for your mail to finish sending before you close Gmail or shut down your computer. If you shut down your computer while the messages are still being sent in the background, you are going to loose those messages. You will see the message in the diagram below when your email message has been sent. This is the only time you can shut down your Gmail account or your computer. Our Thoughts:

This is definitely a good tool for everyone that uses Gmail especially those that use emails as their major means of communication. The time saved by using the “Background Send” feature can be converted to reading and composing more emails. You can also use the time to work on your document if you have activated this feature for your Gmail account. What are you waiting for? Go to the Labs tab under your Gmail Settings and activate the “Background Send” features now.
