Eskimi Tops Google on Opera’s List of Mobile Destinations in Nigeria

Few days back, Opera Software released its monthly State of the Mobile Web report, and this month focused on the growth of the mobile web browsing in Africa. The report looks at the usage of Opera Mini across 53 African countries in the past 12 months. Eskimi became the 2nd most visited site in Nigeria and Namibia.

Eskimi managed to overtake Google, Yahoo, BBC, Goal.com in Nigeria and Namibia during last 6 months. That is pretty interesting since search, news and sports have always been at the top for a long time now. A sign that a hunger of social networking and local content is really on the rise, especially since Facebook is the only site that leads Eskimi.

It’s also in the top 10 most visited sites in Kenya (6), Mozambique (6), Zimbabwe (6), Zambia (3), Tanzania (4) and a few more countries. Showing the trends cuts across the sub-sahara African region. You can find the latest report here: opera.com/smw/2012/06.
