Indeed Alicia key and the entire BlackBerry team are hitting it huge at the BlackBerry Live event as they announced the extension of their almighty BlackBerry Messenger to become a social network and be available on Android and iOS.
BlackBerry believes the BB10 is doing well in the market and it is time to let the closed chat application be independent. “It is a state of confidence, The BB10 platform is so strong and the response has been so good that the time is right for BBM to become an independent mobile messaging platform.” Thorsten Heins, BlackBerry CEO explains.
BlackBerry Messenger has known to be the backbone of blackberry devices especially in Nigeria where people buy the devices just because of BBM, but Hein believes strongly in the game changing plan by saying “It’s time to bring BBM to a greater audience. No matter what mobile device they carry.” – via #BBM
Blackberry also introduced Q5, a QWERTY device with BlackBerry10 OS at the event. It this step actually the rise of Blackberry or the fall of the coming or is just a game changer?
We also got an interesting stat via Tolu Ogunlesi who is live at the event:
“Did you know that 56% of BlackBerry users are women? I didn’t.” – Alicia Keys #BBLive
