By the beginning of the 4th quarter of 2012, the giants in mobile phone manufacturing displayed their ‘next generation’ devices, with Nokia releasing Lumia 920 and 820, Samsung with SIII, Google with Nexus 4 and HTC with 8X. But BlackBerry has a different plan for the launch of its own next generation device, the Blackberry 10 (BB10).
The BB10 has been around for a while with the Alpha version having been released for developers to work, but the official lauch is said to be on 30th of January, 2013. The President and CEO of Research In Motion (RIM), Thorsten Heins said:
“In building BlackBerry 10, we set out to create a truly unique mobile computing experience that constantly adapts to your needs. Our team has been working tirelessly to bring our customers innovative features combined with a best in class browser, a rich application ecosystem, and cutting-edge multimedia capabilities. All of this will be integrated into a user experience – the BlackBerry Flow – that is unlike any smartphone on the market today.
“Thanks to our strong partnerships with global carriers and a growing ecosystem of developers, we believe our customers will have the best experience possible with BlackBerry 10. We are looking forward to getting BlackBerry 10 in the hands of our customers around the world.”
The event will happen simultaneously in multiple countries around the world where details of the smartphones and their availability will be announced. One of such countries is Nigeria, where RIM officially launched an office this year. I have experienced the BB10 device in Alpha stage and the experience is different from the regular blackberry experience we are used to – it includes support of Android applications because of the HTML5 enablement.
As usual, OTEKBITS will be here to deliver a hands on report once the BB10 is launched. Watch this space.
