T-mobile today announced a facebook application that will hit up the free VoIP industry. The brand is called “bobsled” and this service is available today as a free download for all Facebook users and is not exclusive to T-mobile customers. So, if you are still looking for a free VoIP calling option outside skype, google voice etc, then you should definitely this out.

According to T-mobile’s press release, Bobsled – the brand’s Facebook calling application – will provide free, One-Touch calling within facebook to more than 500 Million consumers worldwide. This call will be through the facebook social platform chat window. Aside making live voice calls across the globe, facebook users will be able to send voice messages to friends either privately or via their ‘walls.’

Once downloaded, customers can use the Bobsled application for Facebook to place voice calls to their friends through Facebook Chat with just one click. The application eliminates the need for dialing. All you have to do as a user to make a call is to click on the friend’s name to start the conversation. Also, a user doesn’t have to remember your friend’s screen name or to input numbers. The application will also receive voice message on your behalf when you are not available. Anyone on Facebook can receive a call and no application download is required to receive a call via the Bobsled application for Facebook.

Our thoughts:

This T-mobile Facebook  app looks like a skype and google voice killer application. Most people are already spending most of their time on Facebook. So, it makes sense for them to be able to speak with their friends on the same platform. We expect Skype and Google to respond shortly on this and the consumers will definitely be the winners.
