Nook Color – A cheaper and valuable alternative to the IPad or Galaxy Tab

If you are like me you probably have been spending most of your time updating yourself on the latest gadgets released on a weekly basis. Everyone is into tablets now. Sony,Samsung,LG and everyone else is in the tablet race. The best featured tablets really don’t come cheap. The IPad 2 for starters starts at $499, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 cost from $429. Coming over to Nigeria, the IPad goes for about NGN 115,000, the Tab 10.1 goes for NGN 110,000 (Get the picture).

A cheaper alternative to this high expensive tablets is the Nook Color  from Banes & Nobles. The Nook Color is a cheap tablet at $200,initially designed to be used as an e-reader. The Nook Color is a competitor to Amazons Kindle and has made a lot of sales. The Nook Color runs a customized Android operating system with most of its designed focus on viewing multimedia contents.  If you still aren’t contented with the basic features of the Nook, you can take some time to look at the hardware components.

But this isn’t a full tablet, now is it?

Thanks to the open source nature of the Android Operating system, smart developers out there have been able to hack the Nook to allow you completely replace the default Android OS that comes with the Nook (Full tablet experience) . A good replacement OS for the Nook is Android from  CyanogenMod.  The process of Hacking your Nook Color is called Flashing. Scary thought huh? Well the steps to Root and flash your Nook isn’t for the feint hearted. I have posted a video describing the steps to take in order to root and flash your Nook.
